At Exodus Chiropractic we focus on the relationship between the spine and the nervous system and how that relationship affects the function and restoration of health to the body. We use a chiropractic spinal analysis and adjusting technique called “Torque Release Technique (TRT).” This information is to allow you to better understand the basis for this technique and how it affects your body.
Your nervous system controls and coordinates all the functions of your body. If interference with the signals traveling over nerves occurs due to stress (physical, chemical, emotional and/or spiritual), parts of your body will not receive the proper nerve messages and will not be able to function at 100% of their abilities. In other words, some part of your body will not be working properly.
Many people think that chiropractic is only for your back. This misconception is easily understood. After all, chiropractors do work primarily on your back. However, Chiropractic is about having a healthy nervous system, which will allow your body to be as healthy as possible.
We work with your nervous system to bring about a positive change in your body. This is done through a series of chiropractic adjustments specifically designed to remove interference and improve your nervous system function.
Chiropractic is great for back pain, but it also works great for many ‘non back’ problems. Listed below are just a few:
- migraine
- headaches
- premenstrual syndrome (PMS)
- athletic injuries
- fibromyalgia
- irritable bowel syndrome
- crohn’s disease
- whiplash
- numbness and tingling
- heart problems
- asthma
- allergies
- ear infections
Torque Release Technique
Some Basics:
The only thing constant in life is…change.
- HEALTH is a dynamic state of wholeness in which your body can accurately perceive it’s constantly changing needs and respond appropriately in a timely manner.
- NERVOUS SYSTEM consists of your brain, spinal cord, spinal and peripheral nerves, and all nerves leading into every system, organ and literally every tissue cell of your body. It even includes its coverings and neuropeptides.
- PURPOSE OF YOUR NERVOUS SYSTEM is to monitor your changing needs, and to control and coordinate appropriate responses necessary for proper adaptation, learning and development.
Differences:
- MEDICAL MODEL is based on the study of resulting symptomatic effects and signs, and how to treat those effects. Medicine classifies observed effects into over 2,000 named diseases or syndromes in order to assign different treatments that change in accordance with new discoveries. Medicine and most alternative therapies are a symptom and disease oriented approach.
- CHIROPRACTIC MODEL is based on the study of the nervous system and its role in sustaining health. Its chief concern is interference to the nervous system and normal, healthy function. Chiropractic recognizes that you are either in the ongoing process of adapting to or failing to effectively adapt to stress; that you’re either developing, learning and returning towards wholeness or you’re not. Viewing these two directions, one process leads to health and healing, while the opposite process shows signs of your getting sicker. You’re never static!
- CHIROPRACTIC UNIQUENESS is limited to the science of detecting and analyzing physical interference to the nervous system, and the art and practice of reducing interference by using physical adjustments.
- CHIROPRACTIC PURPOSE is to progressively free your nervous system of interference so it can more clearly and accurately perceive your changing needs. Consequently, it restores your healing capabilities for increased energetic function and vitality.
Major Signs of Sickness:
When you experience life stuck in repeating, annoying patterns.
A Sign of Health and Healing:
When you experience constant change even though you may have pain and discomfort.
Important Things to Know About our “Torque Release Technique (TRT)”
The “non-manipulative” adjustment – Torque Release bases its technique on gentle touch and light thrusting by hand or instrument. This low-force adjusting method allows the nervous system to better integrate and understand the new corrective information and to process it throughout the spinal cord and brain.
Your spinal corrections do not stop once you get off the table. They continue as you breathe and move. You may notice that you hear a click or popping sound in your spine later on the same day after the torque release adjustment. That’s your body realigning and correcting its own subluxations.
Torque Release teaches and empowers your body to make more corrections and healing with ongoing care.
Because analysis and correction are not limited to just the area of pain and symptom, integration tends to be more complete and healing experiences are deeper in all areas of the body, mind, and emotions.
Torque Release Technique releases tensions on the spinal cord by correcting subluxations of spinal segments intimately connected with the meninges or attachments of the spinal cord. It leads to profound neurological changes that benefit everyone – no matter what symptom or level of health they are currently experiencing.
The primary intent of Torque Release Technique (TRT) is to progressively reduce blockages and tension of the entire spinal system, to release trapped unresolved patterns in the body/mind, and to facilitate reintegration of the nervous system, allowing a greater expression of one’s healing and performance capabilities.
Commonly Asked Questions About TRT
What is Torque Release Technique?
TRT is called a “tonal” technique because it normalizes the tone of the nervous system. Imagine that your nervous system has a volume control—if you turn the volume up too high, it causes distortion (increased tone) which can show up as internal organ complaints, musculoskeletal stresses, and diminished immune response. The same occurs if the volume control is set too low, in other words the nervous system is not sending enough messages to the body for what is necessary to get the job done. (decreased tone) This causes your systems to become sluggish, they slow down function and sometimes simply turn off, the muscles become weak and do not support your skeleton well, leading to all sorts of aches and pains.
Torque Release Technique used by the Chiropractors at Exodus Charlotte corrects these problems with increased or decreased neurological tone by normalizing the functioning of the nerves, spinal cord and brain. TRT is based upon correcting spinal misalignments, called subluxations, primarily where the wrapping of the spinal cord and brain, the dura mater, attaches to the spinal segments. These attachments only occur in a small number of sites in the spine; the upper neck area, the sacrum and coccyx. The dura also attaches to all the bones of the skull. We include cranial bone adjusting with our torque release protocols to relieve these stresses on the skull.
What can I expect from Torque Release Technique?
The effects you feel from a Torque Release adjustment are dependent upon your own body’s healing capability. If you are mentally and physically ready to begin the healing process, the TRT protocol is a very powerful system, since it releases deep neurological stresses, even from events that happened earlier in your life. In fact some patients have stated that they have experienced memories from childhood during their Torque Release adjustments. This style of spinal correction is based upon repetition, energy, and time. It takes repetition to clear the spinal stresses that have been accumulating for years. It takes energy on both the doctor’s part and your part to begin the healing process. And finally, it takes time for your body to heal.
Many people that have received a TRT treatment by a Chiropractor at Exodus Charlotte notice a tremendous sense of relaxation and well-being afterwards. Most people take deep sighs after these adjustments as their bodies release deep neurological stresses that have been accumulating over the years. Overall, it’s always a very pleasant and enjoyable experience.
I didn’t feel any noises or popping sounds when you worked on me. Did you really give me an adjustment?
There’s many ways of adjusting the spine. Some involve a physical movement of the joints between two spinal bones, resulting in the sound that people are so familiar with. Other techniques use light force that do not cause any sound. Both techniques work! It all comes down to the intent of the chiropractor in releasing stresses to your nervous system.
What types of conditions does it help?
It’s important to note that Torque Release Technique is not a treatment for specific diseases. TRT is meant to correct spinal subluxations that are interfering with the neurological control of your body. So if your body is experiencing stomach ulcers because of nerve stresses, TRT will help. If your body’s immune system is depleted because of neurological stresses, TRT will help. If your body is experiencing back pain due to neurological stresses, TRT will help. The type of symptom does not matter, since we’re getting to the root cause of the symptom, which in many cases is the malfunctioning of your nervous system.
Is this technique safe for infants and children?
We have found that this technique is one of the best ones we’ve seen for all ages of children – from birth through adolescence. The technique is extremely gentle, with no forceful manipulations of the spine. Children really enjoy its gentleness and often hop up onto the tables in anticipation of their spinal corrections! This is one of the most powerful methods known to enhance your child’s health via natural methods.

Subluxations
The word “subluxation” comes from the Latin words meaning “to dislocate” (luxate) and “somewhat or slightly” (sub). A subluxation means a slight dislocation (misalignment) or biomechanical malfunctioning of the vertebrae (bones of the spine). These disturbances may irritate nerve roots and blood vessels which branch off from the spinal cord between each of the vertebrae. This irritation may cause pain and dysfunction in muscle, lymphatic and organ tissue as well as imbalance in the normal body processes.
Children
How Can a Young Infant’s Spine Be Traumatized?
A young spine, with few exceptions, usually develops perfectly by the end of pregnancy. It’s what happens around the time of birth and in the months thereafter which can sometimes upset the normal functioning of the spine. Spinal segments can be pushed out of place or jammed by the position of the baby in the womb, or can suffer similar problems during labor from the trauma of the trip through the birth canal, or from the birthing process itself. Medical research has identified the fact that many problems early in a child’s life can come from birth trauma (See “‘KISS’ Syndrome” in Dynamic Chiropractic, 6/3/94).
Spinal problems can also occur as a result of the frequent falls suffered by young infants in the first months of life. A fall from a bed, a sudden stop in an automobile, or any significant unsupported movement of the head and neck in an infant can induce excessive movement in the spine causing vertebral subluxations. At the other end of the spine, the act of learning to walk, and the number of simple falls encountered in this way, can induce trauma to the lower spinal segments and to the large sacroiliac joints of the pelvis. Young children learning to walk also fall and hit their heads. These apparently innocent, frequently occurring events can also create spinal subluxations.
