TWO ‘GENERATION Y’ CHIROPRACTORS FACE DOWN THE CHALLENGES OF STARTING A NEW BUSINESS
(CHARLOTTE, NC) With an economy slower than it has been in decades, the idea of starting a new business has frightened a lot of people away and caused them to sit on whatever resources they have. But two recently graduated chiropractors have looked at the statistics and the economy and have decided to go headlong into business and make the most of their talent, drive, and strong desire to serve people.
Drs. Brandon and Natalie Mahaffy graduated from Life University’s College of Chiropractic in Atlanta, GA, in the summer of 2012. After graduation, they moved to Huntersville, NC, and began working on setting up a new practice.
“This is one of those rights of passage for every businessperson,” said Brandon Mahaffy. “Figuring out business licenses, building permits, budgeting, working with the bank…. It is a daunting task, but with a little hard work and determination it can be done. We have had the help of some really good people in the Charlotte and Lake Norman area, and the experience has been really great.”
The Mahaffys’ practice is Exodus Chiropractic. Like most in their generation, the Mahaffys are doing things a little differently.
Natalie Mahaffy says, “We definitely don’t run our practice in the same way people are used to seeing and experiencing. We don’t wear white coats, we don’t “crack backs,” and our payment model is more family-oriented and less pay-for-service. We use an up-to-date model called Torque Release Technique. There is no twisting or popping of the spine and we use an instrument that is gentle, specific, and safe for the whole family. It is the only technique of its kind and is borne out of research. Dr. Brandon is a published author, in a peer-reviewed journal, on the effectiveness of this technique, and our patients are seeing great benefits in their health and lives.”
Drs. Brandon and Natalie are a great team. They take turns adjusting patients and answering the phones. The office always has a steady stream of practice members coming through; the atmosphere is less like a doctor’s office and more like a visit to close friends.
They chose the Charlotte area — Huntersville in particular — because they felt it was where they were called to serve and change the health of their community.
With just a few months of business under their belts, the Mahaffys are exceedingly upbeat and looking to the future.
“We came here because we want to help people Express Health and Experience Life to their fullest potential. What we do is different, and we believe people are going to seek us out for that. We truly believe we are giving the most specific chiropractic care in the area, and our results will speak to that,” Dr. Brandon says.
